I've always been a fan of symphonic versions of Chinese folk songs, you hear them all the time in the movies but I've rarely found records or CD's of the stuff. If you ever spot this CD in the bargain bins, it's great! Grab it! Fun, cheesy and beautiful versions of most popular tunes in China.

And so it ends!

From the top nut to the bridge is under 20 inches, and the bottom of the 12th fret is 10 inches from the top nut.

So the bridge is off a little, that's why the frets are out of wack in a consistent manner.

Maybe I'll readjust the bridge...but nah, I know why it's messed up now. It's fine!

Notice on the orange guitar that it is 10 inches down from the nut to the bottom of the 12th fret.

From the bottom of the 12th fret to the bridge is another 10 inches!

This guitar sounds good!

So what about the sunburst guitar?

I put the orange one to the same test, nothing wrong with it.

Side by side they looked the same. Just mass assembled in China under the name "First Act".

It puzzled me but I trudged on. I mean, they're $15 guitars. Someone probably made a mistake assembling the Sunburst one.

But how? 3/?

A tale of 2 children's guitars that I own.

I have been playing the orange guitar since I discovered it in the back of Glob in 2010 one day. It disappeared for from 2011-2020, and then it was gifted to me. It has a beautiful treble sound so I bought the guitar on the right a few months ago. 1/?

I bought a drum dial today to learn how to set-up the head tension by myself. Adjusted the bridge on Monday too! Now it is as close to perfect as a $140 banjo from China could possibly be.

Good morning from snowy Denver!

This music stand is the best I've ever owned, out of the 7 I have had. It was given to me by a friend before they moved across the country.

It has a decent weight so it doesn't fall down and the sheet music holder has an adjustable angle knob so you can set up your music just right.

I bought a compilation record of Wade Mainer and the Sons of the Mountaineers (1936-42) for $6 on Discogs and it is signed by Wade frickin' Mainer himself on the back cover. Dude was born in 1907 and died in 2011, crazy.

Pumpkins were on sale so I made myself an unseasonal jack-o'-lantern.

Turned out pretty great!

Okay, if you make it to the end then it is a pretty great essay.

I especially enjoyed this part:

The 2 fiddle tunes I'm learning this winter, The Dancing Master (aka The Swallowtail Jig) and of course. Sally Goodin.

You can see the Aurora Borealis over Denver tonight! That is wild! I never thought this would happen.

You can buy a brand new stereo lathe for $5k, why would you pay $8k for a lathe from the 1940's (maybe 50's) that cuts records in mono?

The record lathe market is full of unrealistic deals like this.

Is it pointless to remind you that Mr Pacman is playing a rare show on Saturday night in Denver.

This has been a really good book on early American fiddle playing and music in general. I'd highly recommend it if you are a music history geek like me.

I have this photo of my cat Kato lying on the floor of my house a few hours before I took her to the vet to be put asleep. It's a heartbreaking picture, I only look at it every now and then. It makes me sad every time.

Google Photo did this to it:

Mr Pacman is playing a show on November 15 at a mortuary. I don't know why it is at a mortuary. I just go where they tell me to go, wear what ridiculous outfit they ask me to wear, and play what keyboard parts they ask me to play.

If you're in Denver, you should come.

This was a much better record than I expected. I might start searching for the rest of this series.

There is just so much good recorded music that I have never heard before. I love series like this that give me the opportunity to fix a little bit of that.

I started playing viola in 1980, stopped in 1992 when I got into playing bass. I was okay at it, never really good though. A few days ago, I bought an old beater violin to see if I could get better.

Funny thing is, everything came flooding back and I'm just as bad at it now as I was 33 years ago 😂
