I have such a skewed perspective on this because I spent most of the 90s in Boston and the kind of retro, sample-heavy thing wasn’t as popular as grunge, goth, and a garage rock/hardcore revival!

I admire Doughty’s solo work more than I enjoy it, but the first two Soul Coughing albums are fantastic

I will say that I don’t see it as being AS 90s as Mark Richardson did, or rather that it was a specific kind of 90s (New York post-grunge)

I’m somewhat biased about this because grunge hung on in Boston for long past its sell-by date

I’m hoping I can get this up to speed enough that I can troubleshoot with my music teacher in my lesson this week
