I have such a skewed perspective on this because I spent most of the 90s in Boston and the kind of retro, sample-heavy thing wasn’t as popular as grunge, goth, and a garage rock/hardcore revival!

For example this was the band that won the Rumble the year I graduated high school

I admire Doughty’s solo work more than I enjoy it, but the first two Soul Coughing albums are fantastic

I will say that I don’t see it as being AS 90s as Mark Richardson did, or rather that it was a specific kind of 90s (New York post-grunge)

I’m somewhat biased about this because grunge hung on in Boston for long past its sell-by date

The oligarchs funding Trump, and Trump himself, are all-in on AI.

You might as well be driving a cybertruck. Philosophically and economically, when you use AI, you support Trump.

When I learned the story of what inspired this song* I always heard the first verse as being written/perceived through a haze of grief

(* I believe it was inspired by James Honeyman-Scott’s overdose)

Chrissie Hynde was my dad’s crush and that song always reminds me of him

I really appreciate how Chris is able to write about music theory and put these records in the context of their times
