I've actually sort of changed my mind on stamp duty recently. I'd replace it with a land tax or asset tax or something, rather than taxing the transaction.

The obvious thing here, which they're obviously not going to tell a journalist, is that they're not declaring the entire earnings from their business for tax purposes. But to do that and then whinge about stamp duty is really something

They say they make 60k per year BETWEEN THEM and are trying to buy a house which would cost them 15-20k in stamp duty. This means the house would be 5-600k. You cannot afford that on a combined 60k so something does not add up

It makes a lot of difference that orgs have to even think about being held to account from a trans positive perspective. It's only going to act as a bulwark against the worst excesses of GC overreach though

For years the vital calculation has been "irrespective of what is right, if GCs don't get what they want there is a near 100% certainly they'll sue, and if trans people don't get what they want theres a near 100% certainty they *won't* sue, so always do what GCs want. So...

Even then, it's unpoliceable given you could just maliciously report absolutely everybody. I could see this govt or a future one trying that though, I agree

It's much much more than just testosterone levels - it's genetic testing. Many women who will fall foul of this will have no idea they are potentially intersex and will likely experience discrimination and abuse as a result.

They know that this inevitably leads to human rights abuses because it has in the past, and they know that actually this stuff doesn't go down very well when people understand what they're doing, so they are lying and using trans women as the cover so we get all the shit in the media
