"The "Third World" term arose during Cold War to define countries that remained non-aligned w/ either NATO or Warsaw Pact.
US, Canada, W. Europe, Japan, etc represented "1st World".
Soviet Union, China, Cuba, Vietnam, North Korea, etc represented "Second World"."
