Thanks to recapture, the State of Texas gets more money from my property taxes than any entity - AISD, Travis County, City of Austin, Travis Central Health, and Austin Community College.

We may not have income taxes in Texas, but we are not a low-tax state.

The problem with the way media and opponents phrased it was “your property tax is going up by 20%!”

The city portion of my taxes is less than 25% of the total, so this increase was < 5% overall.

Still an increase, but a very different context for voters to decide against.

Democrats have to spend most of their political capital fixing the messes, we get blamed for not doing anything.

If the left didn’t inherently care more than the right and occasionally had power, we’d be in a Britain-style decline.
