outside of individual donations to gofundmes and such, one helpful destination for your money right now is this bond fund. everyone being released from broadview needs to pay $1500 bond, which is obviously insane. it's going to cost like $925k to successfully spring 615 people linktr.ee/mw_bondfund
Midwest Immigration Bond Fund | Linktree
We formed in 2020 & began paying out immigration bonds for IL, IN, WI, and KY.

multi-volume perfect bound slipcase set of these emails from the world's least literate creeps with little headshots and minibios of all the contributors, maps, etc.

the good part about being a socialist is that you get to be right about everything that's wrong with the world. the bad part is that everything that's wrong with the world is still wrong with it

I know we're going to beat them and going to beat them so bad there'll never be a them like them ever again; however, today I am just absolutely agog at the ocean of banal cruelty.

I guess I'm lucky I still have a conscience that can be horrified by the confirmation of its cynicism, but Jesus.

BRYDON: That is where you're so wrong, thats the very thing I don't do.

COOGAN: well, do your Peter Griffin.

BRYDON: before the cancellation Peter said "howely CWAP, Louis,"

It’s also cool to get older and keep reading and have books that are also formative in, like, your 20s and 30s. Barthelme’s Sixty Stories? I got assigned it in that same grad school and read that copy to tatters, bought a new one, marked it up to hell, then a friend gave me another-another copy.
I was 13 years old and forbidden from reading R-rated books like Stephen King. Then I saw the ”Don‘t Fear the Reaper” opening of The Stand miniseries by accident and declared, “I’m going to read whatever this book is,” and they did not stop me. Everything opens up after that.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Makes me think of MAO II where DeLillo is talking (in 1991) about how terrorists now occupy the space novelists once held. Novelists once dangerously influenced mass consciousness, now they don't, and terrorists have seized their role.

Oates is from the last generation still trained to kill.

Sara and I have never been able to definitively determine which of us is the Jay and which is the Matt.

This is an easier challenge with other duos of the screen.
