‘What year is this?’

And with that, realities crash together.

Done. Semi-annual rewatch of David Lynch and @markfrost.bsky.social’s masterpiece. Wanted to do this again this year in light of our losing Mr Lynch.

Thankyou both. Thankyou everyone involved. You changed my life.

If you're looking for illustrations for "AI", don't use robots, glowing disembodied brains, or computer code in empty space. Here are a some alternative suggestions:

Hurrah! My article on the Twilight 2000 RPG in the Journal of American Studies is now open access (OA), so anyone who wants to can have a read. OA is important to me, as I want my work on RPG history to go beyond the academy and reach the gaming public.

More typographical sins from the office of the President.
The font would appear to be English 111 Adagio CE, available for the highly presidential sum of just $39.75 USD

Note "The" is not kerned correctly

(see perspective-corrected still for reference)

That’s not a sign. It’s a poorly kerned (do I detect the hand of Microsoft word?) printout on sheets of A3 paper tacked to the wall.

I read a lot of opinions about AI and the future of work, and this post by @naomialderman.bsky.social is the best I've come across in a long time. It was written for young people the same age as my daughters, and the best compliment I can give it is that I immediately shared it with them.

This is a public service announcement to recommend pre-ordering @davidmbarnett.bsky.social's Scratch Moss. Out in the Spring, and the most brutal, gut-wrenching thing he’s written. If you thought Withered Hill was good, you’re going to be blown away by this.

Peanuts. (not allergic, just hate the smell)

Do I have to have seen it *all* already? (If not - Moonwalker - walked out of the cinema).

If so, then Watchmen.

Crazy Horses.

what’s the word for having just signed a contract to do a thing that you’re not going to tell anyone about for about a week, after which it’ll dominate your creative life until, say, the end of November?

This would indeed appear to be the case. Stares very hard at @springer.springernature.com and wonders what they’re actually good for?
The official database of works eligible for the Anthropic AI settlement has been released and, as I suspected, many authors are screwed. Basically, if your books weren't officially registered with the US Copyright Office you're out of luck. 1/ secure.anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com/lookup/results

A hugely important update for authors and publishers: you may not be eligible, it's a defined list of titles based on US copyright registration and date eligibility, not everything in LibGen. But take five minutes to be sure 👉
If you think you are entitled to a share of the $1.5bn class action settlement with AI firm Anthropic in the US, you can now file a claim.

The settlement website has all the info including a searchable database of eligible titles, claim forms and FAQs www.anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com
