Gripen C is same generation as F-16.
Gripen E is a completely new aircraft.

I am not saying this because I am from Sweden. Everyone understood that F-35 was earlier assumed to include some form of US security guarantees. South Korean, French, Euro UK or Swedish aircrafts did not have this advantage.

I think Finland took the right decision at the time.
