Depends on the hyperlanes! I like a nice "blob" of an empire, anywhere from 15-35 systems. I play with 2 guaranteed usually, but I try to have my blob of space have 4-5 colonies before I feel "safe" to go aggressively expand, but I've had cozy spawns before where I could just go supertall on like 5!

The hegemony one. Federation too, but I used the normal fed once to cheese... something? a few patches ago as a Rogue Servitor iirc
