the weird agoraphobia type thing i dealt w a lot in apr-jun is back too :(( not as bad as it was then but i get so horrifically anxious when i have to go anywhere i wont be able to escape if im sick, and the anxiety just makes me actually sick :(( idk what to even do about it sigh

i have an eye test today bc im overdue and my glasses dont even work anymore and then i have to pay like £35 to get to the airport on sunday and i need to go food shopping too ITS OVER???

![thebooksmartbimbo on instagram. recognising psychiatry's propaganda: the biomedical model. the most widely accepted social understanding of "neurodivergence" is the biomedical model, which is the idea that what we call "mental illness" is a biological fact caused by (my own note: mostly, but also genetics, brain structure, etc) a chemical imbalance. acceptance of this model may seem "woke", but both science and lived experience tell us these messages can actually harm those with psych labels.
why it came to be: in the mid 1900s, psychiatrists weren't highly valued. in order to gain validity, they felt they needed to align themselves with medical doctors. the biomedical model allowed them to validate their treatments and drugs as medically necessary. and, because psych diagnoses are highly subjective, they could create an ever-growing market, thus protecting their jobs and pockets. soon enough, successful campaigning by the APA and other organisations led to [the biomed model] becoming a widespread cultural myth.
what it sounds like:
• medicalising: "mental health is no different than physical health". words like symptom/chemical imbalance.
• false equivalencies: "we're like diabetics, psych meds are like insulin"
• qualification: "your friends cant support you, you need a qualified therapist"
• othering: "feeling anxious is fundamentally different to having anxiety"
"because psychiatric ideology mystifies peoples difficulties into an illness that only experts are capable of treating... we abandon and isolate people when they need love and nurturance." - judi chamberlain
the truth: the chemical imbalance theory has been discredited. there is no known specific biological cause for what we call mental illnesses. psych treatment is not always effective and many recover without it. we can recognise and accept divergence without spreading misinformation and/or othering those with psych labels.

a) is the first doctor to explicitly say "that was not bad side effects, whoever said that should lose their job, you clearly had serotonin syndrome"
b) was into my harm reduction method of sh-ing
c) agreed that i know best and my dx will likely be bipolar

if the meds you get from your psychiatrist (psychoactive substances) being called drugs like any other (just either gatekept wrongfully or forced upon you, regulated, supplied safely, and often less racialised) offends you?? makes you feel insulted?? evaluate your attitudes towards drug users. now
