I'm a southern Black writer in the horror community, but I've been considering making this change anyway. I don't want to be complicit in people feeling comfortable using slurs out of context or minimizing their damage.

#2SpookySentences is now #2ScarySentences
Today is the first day of October aka Halloween 1st and that means I'm bringing back spooky writing prompts with #2SpookySentences! Concoct a spooky story, two sentences at a time.

There's no I in team but there is meat

Delicious tender meat

Soaked in sweetness, rippled with fat

So much meat

More than the darkness could consume

You hope

That is enough

Struggling to take the narrowed plot goggles off and just let the freedom of manic keyboard mashing run through me. It's so fucking difficult.

The smallest of favours it seems, was letting the Lych into your world. Your connection has let it reach more power than it could have envisioned in its rune etched brain.

Finally getting around to watching "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (2025) and y'all. I am under 2 minutes into this film and the dialogue is already on some Hallmark shit. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING.

Lmao how this 70-80 dollar 2025 pocket monster game gonna be a less compelling, less polished, AND less performant RPG than 2010's buggy-ass Fable 3? Be so mf serious right now.

Thrilled to see writers taking the folk horror genre in fascinating new directions. The new anthology from @neilwilliamson.bsky.social, Blood in the Bricks, focuses on the folk horror potential of urban areas and launches at World Fantasy Convention next weekend. Dig it!
Book Review: Blood in the Bricks, edited by Neil Williamson
Why shouldn’t folk horror take place in the cities? Most of the ingredients are there: isolation, ritual, and superstition. Folk horror lives whenever the folk go, after all. And while urban areas …

Frozen in place, by a wave of sleep paralysis, you and the Lochlych, realize the deep reach of the dreaming. The ghoul was leaning in to share its secrets, its hot breath in your ear, now only utters curses and venom.

One way or another, the thing that was keeping the Lochlych trapped in the dreams, would capture it and drag it back. The ghoul had made itself into the stuff of nightmares, so to be among the awake, fleshy creatures was unnatural.

Fix it in place, hold in down, devour the ghoul to learn its secrets. Or will you have to peel the rune-marked skin from its flesh and wear it's secrets as a suit?

What was left behind, a trail of blood splatter and the smell of cardamom and old magic, leads me right to them. They are surprised to see me, but when the lochlych looks into my hungry eyes it is knowingly pleased.

This is Finley. He has a rare genetic mutation that causes patches of different colors in his coat. It is completely harmless, but it does make him completely handsome. 14/10 (IG: jaktlabben.finley)

An unsated appetite for games is what hold the Locklych to this world. The realms beyond death may hold paradise or damnation, but the Locklych only cares to smugly outwit death, to win against the ultimate tilted table.

What you remember from the dream fades quickly, your mind scrabbling to grab on to any important detail like a limp armed rock climber desperate to find a loose root on their rock-scraping death plummet. Then, one word: Lochlych.

Quite unexpectedly, the ghoul turns around and gives you a conspiratorial wink before departing into the chill night, as if you intended to help free this nightmare.

Good vibrations shudder through your body as something within you wants run along side it. You miss the ghoul like a wanton werewolf misses the full moon.

It’s late, you’re tired, and you fumble for the light switch while taking off your shoes and coat and trying not to drop your overstuffed bags. You shuffle to the couch, going for minutes, but never feel the soft bump of its worn surface against your knees: unexpected but okay.
