Cataract Update:I’ve been slow to post this because this week was a setback, and honestly discouraging. FYI I’m still working on covering my out-of-pocket for surgery, so if you’re able, my Linktree has ways to help. Back in October to get a definite diagnosis, I paid out of pocket to see an out-of-network ophthalmologist since I couldn’t find anyone in-network with openings for months. He sent me to a retina specialist also referred me to another doctor in his same practice for a surgery consult. No issues with the retina specialist but this week I found out the other referral is not in network, despite having discussed this and the fact he's even now listed in the provider directory. Sigh! Although I'm not really starting over it feels like it. I managed to get an appt with a doctor nearby next week. I already know they have no surgical appts this year but if I can get it done closer to home it may be worth waiting. Even as a passenger, I'm tired from the long drives and I would likely have to drag my friend to Atlanta to do any better. To her credit she was willing but I think our sanity is worth getting it done nearby.. The only positive I can see from this is it gives me a little more time to build up the nest egg I need for my out of pocket costs. I will update as I know more, but in the interim thanks to everyone who has chipped in or spread the word. Next week, I'm meeting with the doctor to discuss timing and details of the surgery. I'm not excited about it, but not dreading it either. Lots of family have been through this, so I know more or less what to expect. The main source of anxiety remains the same: my $2K out-of-pocket costs beyond what insurance covers. I know it's a terrible time to ask, but if you can spare a few dollars or spread the word, it all helps. I have Venmo, PayPal, and Ko-Fi links in my linktree if you'd like to help and it won't put you in a bad place financially. FYI, there's a progress tracker on my Ko-Fi if you'd lke to see where things stand. Thanks to everyone who has left encouragement or helped out. It means more than you know.
