This overall question sounds like a fun estimate to do. In pre-car east coast cities, the upgrade from horses to engines did at least remove the public health problems and general unpleasantness of all of the horse poo. bsky.app/profile/cost...

At its peak, 100-200k NYC horses, 30 lbs of poop/day each. People would use these boot scrapers, that you can still see everywhere today built into the brownstone wrought iron fences, to scrape, 70%? of the poop off the bottom of their shoes before they went into the house. Horse poop everywhere.
A flat boot scraper plate in a wrought iron fence outside a NY brownstone. Folks would have poop on their shoes and then scrape it across plates like this to get a little of the poop off their shoes.
