“The Trudy are the coolest UK cult pop band you’ve probably never heard of.” - Louder Than War

Making independent music since 1979.

On this day in 1985 we didn’t play with Moonbats and Ozric Tentacles in Croydon as our bass player's car broke down and he couldn't get back from Cornwall. Maybe it was Devon. Perhaps we should have played without him.

On 17/11/1981 John Peel played Hotel by The Trudy. Our drummer recently found out, via a #Cardiacs page, that the Cardiac Arrest EP he played on in 1979 was played twice on the John Peel show. He was so excited to discover this, just 46 years after it happened, that he barely slept for a week.

Two days late this time. If we’d posted this on Sunday we could have said, "On this day in 1987, The Trudy played at the brilliant Alice in Wonderland at Gossips."

Oh no! We should have posted this yesterday! We could have then said, "On this day in 1990 ..."

Must try harder next year!

A poster advertising our second gig, in 1981. Rescued from a wall by Sue Smallwood and now presented here for your wonderment.

Comprehensive biographical info. from '06 at sadly defunct American site arrivedercibklyn. To be fair there was little about us on line back then. This is from when we released Lost Summer of Love. Photo by David Churchill, taken in 1991 ish, before the hiatus mentioned in the article. #Cardiacs

To avoid any doubt about about the Spaceflight News photo here’s a more recognisable pic of Melissa at the Kennedy Space Centre. Pretty certain the camera operative in the image is Bob Geldof.

In the 80s people seemed quite happy to believe we came from the planet Miron, but when we printed this genuine photo of Melissa at The Kennedy Space Centre, taken from Spaceflight News, they wouldn't have it.

In the 80s, DIY cassette singles were a great way for unsigned bands to release their music. Before we could afford to press 7" records, we duplicated cassette singles at home and then got the train to the Xerox shop with a colour copier, which was near Waterloo Station, to copy the inserts.

24th January 1990. While Cyndi Lauper was heading west The Trudy stayed where they were last week; at No.4 on the W963 Campus Countdown. [Sounds like something Peter Powell would've said if he hadn’t retired 2 year earlier – Ed.]

Merchandise menu from 1986. This handsome artefact was next to The Record Shack at our gigs. The Trudy Boutique later became The Trudy Love Boutique & then The Planet Miron Love Boutique. We got The Batman posters cheap from Broadway Bargains in Worcester Park. #TheTrudy

Q. Hey Bexx, did I imagine it, or did #RoseTyler appear in the #DoctorWho Storybook 2009 wearing a Trudy T-shirt?

A. Sorry Johnny, you must have imagined it, but a similar thing did happen in the Doctor Who Storybook 2007. Bexx Bissell - self-appointed Manager of #TheTrudy

#TheTrudy circa 1983. (L-R) Richard Targett, Tracy Savage, Lorna Diamond, Jon Bastable Jnr., with Vic Austin & Keith Dangerfield out of shot. Looks like The Swan in Kingston.

A follow-up to yesterday's post. On this day in 1981, the very talented and much missed Colvin Mayers guested with #TheTrudy, at Snoopies in Richmond on a song he'd written called 'I Want To Be On Television'. Colvin was still in #Cardiacs and had just been asked to join #TheSound.
