This is your annual reminder that (canonically) Casablanca (1942) takes place in the wee small hours of December 7, 1941.
A ★★★★★ review of Casablanca (1942)
Casablanca is the movie that everyone claims to have seen and hand waves away any discussion of it as a serious film, or if they’ve actually seen it and don’t have a strong opinion about it, then they...

One of the biggest drivers of high housing costs is that a small, highly motivated group of incumbent homeowners block new housing in their neighborhoods and almost no one is organized to push back.

Young people bear the brunt of that imbalance.

Be a housing fan.

I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

I recall an article from a few years back about how Tory governance introduced a number of American electoral/political structures including a powerful high court and termed governance to a parliamentary system and how that was probably dumb and well here we are.
I don't know how you see poll after poll like this and not think "hm, maybe we should change our strategy a bit"
📊 Seat estimate | Labour wipeout

➡️ REF: 360 (+355)
🟢 GRN: 79 (+75)
🟠 LD: 72 (-)
🔵 CON: 48 (-73)

there's a young person who's become a regular at council meetings. I'm both glad they're interested in local government, and horrified that they seem to see sitting at council meetings as the way to be involved.

There's no question in my mind that Woke Bill Kristol would be the most effective Democratic House leader of my lifetime. I take no pleasure, etc.
For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

Jeffries says not to expect Democrats to pursue Hegseth impeachment over boat strikes
"Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor," he said.

Curious why climatically pretty moderate New Jersey (outside the shore) is seeing such issues.
Keys & Mulder build dataset to study homeowners insurance using over 74 million premiums from 2014–2024 inferred from mortgage escrow payments. Premium increases are capitalized into home values, reducing home price growth by over $40,000 in the most exposed zip codes. www.nber.org/papers/w32579

I'm watching a show from the early 2010s where a celebrities career is supposedly on the rocks over a shoplifting incident and it's laughable how little we would care today.
