The Leyland Society was formed in 1998 with the aim of preserving the heritage of Britain’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer for future generations to appreciate.
Three products not normally associated with Leyland - Tractor produced in the Bathgate plant, Comet tank produced in Comet Shop, Farington, Leyland and Class 155 DMU produced in the Lilliyhall (Workington) plant.

The Leyland O.500 fixed head engine was generally not a fleet engineer's favourite. After some operating experience with their Leyland Nationals, NS found the standard windscreen caused too many reflections and decided to replace them with their own design; ZO 3119
(45-05-BB) is one of the conversions, and was photographed at Tiel Station on 19 April 1977.

The order for 450 Leyland for Inversionistas Del Transporte (IDT) in Caracas is well documented. Perhaps less well known is the story of the service and warranty backup provided by Leyland.

Photographed at The Leyland Society Gathering at Rowsley, Derbyshire on 29th June, Sheffield 287 had an interesting life. During its later years in service with Mainline it was converted to open top. When acquired for preservation a donor roof was located and this superb restoration was the result.

When Fleetline production transferred from Coventry to Leyland in the mid 1970s the Leyland photographer visited a number of towns and cities to photograph Fleetlines in service - including Chesterfield.

At Transport World Invercargill is this 1971 Australian specification Austin Mastiff, chassis no 387848. It is powered by an 8.3 litre Perkins V8 engine and has a gross vehicle weight of 23,247lbs.

The Leyland Society works with the British Commercial Vehicle Museum assisting them to catalogue their archive of historic documents and images. We are currently scanning a collection of Leyland National images of which this is one. London Country NPK246R a 10351A/1R model new in October 1976.
