Unfortunately this instructor wasn't a tenured professor, but a long-term NTT lecturer. These people are the ones most often on the receiving end of anti-academic political crusades bc they don't enjoy the same protections as tenured faculty, & are easy to fire without cause (esp in red states).

Also, students objecting bc they couldn't make "opposing views" to the way a course was taught isn't how universities work; this wasn't a debate, it was a period of instruction. You can't debate your professor if you don't like how they teach calculus; it's the same with literature.

The "dad" of the student who took one of the classes involved has the Xitter handle "Son of Aragorn" which is example infinity that conservatives have neither read nor understood The Lord of the Rings.

I'm in Florida where people are already predicting (another) conservative exodus from NYC to "escape that Socialist mayor" so, yeah, this tracks. Sigh.
