People will be like “zoning is a completely rational tool to promote public health and safety, leading to better housing options and living conditions” and then the zoning codes include sections about “fenestration variety“

I love reading zoning codes and finding rules that just make new housing look weird like this “Fenestration Variety” standard

The planners have gone mad!

Baltimore just eliminated parking minimums, reduced lot line setbacks, and allowed single-stair buildings for buildings up to six stories

All without years of studies or prevarication. This is not just the path to rest belt revival, it is a model for cities nationwide

Newest Substack covers what it took to pass SB 79, a bill to allow 5-7 story buildings within a half mile of major transit stations, out of California’s legislature

Now just needs the Governor’s signature to become law!

Amidst everything going on in the world, it’s still crazy to me how little we talk about how wrong Euclid v. Ambler. America might be a much more free, affordable place if it were decided differently

CA Democrats on track to lose 4 house seats and electoral votes by 2030, and the only way out is by unleashing a massive boom of new housing in our cities

Protecting CA’s values requires building more of everything: market-rate, affordable, single-room occupancy, supportive housing

We need an all-of-the-above solution, a massive building boom that will require removing decades of barriers to homes in the places people want to live

Facing longterm electoral disaster, @GavinNewsom is preparing to sue the Trump administration. He can be the hero CA needs if he focuses just as much on major wholesale housing reform
