Ha ha ha! Fair. I can't judge the Corkman's Brummie, but Norton's accent is just... off. Like you can't quite tell what's wrong with it, but you know its not authentic. It sounded kind of like a posh Dublin guy trying to do wroking class accent.

On top of which they had a secret 'shooting circle' that was busy assassinating informers and police in Dublin. This is a memorial plaque to two policement they killed in Temple Bar.

Jesus no, of course they wouldn't. Habeus corpus had been suspended in 1867, you didn't even need to be tried to locked up for Fenian membership.

It's just... terrible. I had no idea how bad it would be. I gave up after less than two episodes.

There are apparently no British troops or officials in Dublin. The Guiness family themselves speak with broad Dublin accents for some reason and not the upper class 'Rathmines' accents they no doubt had. They are also presented as 'uniting Orange and Green'. Just... what?

Then for some reason they decided to burn the Guinness barrells. Why? Why for crying out loud?

More to the point perhaps the Fenians had already had thier rebellion the previous year and been thoroughly crushed. Thousands had been put in jail or transported. They weren't really in a postion to riot to the tunes of Kneecap even had they wanted to.

But like, the Fenians, dressed as drunken leprechauns, say they are going to attack the Guinnesses becuase they are Protestants and unionists. An odd choice of action for a group who were avowed secularists at the time.

The first episode has the Fenians trying break up Guinness patriarch Benjamin's funeral in 1868. Which is odd for a range of reasons. One of which is that, of course, it did not actually happen.

It's truly dreadful.

Much against my better judgement, have been forced to watch 'House of Guinness' on Netflix. I was not expecting a historical documentary or anything, but Holy God...
