I managed to turn this around in about 2 weeks for a short demo. Not nearly as complex as I'd like, but the best approximation I could manage in that timeframe (note the temp background). I'd really like to dig into dithering and even further limited palettes, though.

I've been saying this! I've even been collecting reference images because the UI and windowboxes compel me-- I really wish more VN devs also went that same direction, but I have seen more people start to dig into that same aesthetic lately. Here's a few I had on hand when working on my last project:

Still kills me that I can track the *attempted* views for my VN, Yudashi Peril: Floraison, which is still unavailable on itch. It's not much, but these are views that got met with a brick wall. It sucks.

Well, you can just release a game for free. But also, I kind of would like to receive money for it, because I have no income right now, and haven't had any for several months... nor do I think I will have any for many months to come...

Visited Crater Lake for the first time in maybe 20 years. Turns out Polaroid cameras will not work if the temperature is too low, but at least my phone still did.

Oh my God. I genuinely just popped into this because I was excited to see a movie musical with the same director as Chicago was in theaters. I didn't expect to wind up crying because it was a deeply personal story about a trans woman just trying to survive. Please see it
