The semi-random nature of Sektori's enemy wave and room, and upgrade selection means that this randomness will probably play a larger role in the upper upper echelons of the scoreboards, but this isn't the worst trade-off considering it will only affect a small number of dedicated players

So Sektori has you construct your upgrade pool ahead of time, which has to be a fixed size. This lets it assume that you obtained most upgrades by the end of a run, which then allows Sektori to prevent the usual wild swinginess in player/enemy power. The main random thing is then the upgrade order-

Yea archiving into two sites is what I've done so far. Incidentally I also recently set up a self-hosted ArchiveBox instance to archive any sources I would link to in an article and replace them with a link to the Wayback Machine

Watched INTIMATE CONFESSIONS OF A CHINESE COURTESAN (1972), a prostitution rape-revenge story that's remarkably tasteful and restrained given its material, while being completely unrestrained in its retributive violence. One of the prettiest Shaw films too. It is also, quite literally, toxic yuri

To me it feels like every low-to-mid budget 3D game on the PS2 that wasn't like a racing game, sci-fi/fantasy RPG or a platformer felt like it looked like this screenshot from Contra: Shattered Soldier. The age of washed out grungy textures

Watched The Holy Mountain (1973) by Jodorowsky. Some of the most insane propwork and surreal imagery put to film that's buoyed by a fairly comprehensible narrative about self-enlightenment, while also taking the piss (and shit) out of it a bit. Unfortunately it also shows a lot of animal abuse
