The Greens have secured an inquiry to find out why job & program cuts are being rolled out across the CSIRO! It will consider the impacts of the funding cuts, the importance of public funding for science & CSIRO’s future funding & resourcing needs.

Our inquiry is in response to the CSIRO's decision to cut 350 jobs, which equates to 6% of its total workforce. The latest round of cuts follows the slashing of 800 positions in the past 18 months.

In the face of a worsening climate crisis, the work of CSIRO is vital to Australians and our future generations. We should be strengthening our research capacity, not running it into the ground. We must do all we can to save the CSIRO. That’s why we’ve secured a Senate inquiry.

Scientists deserve better & they deserve answers, as do all Australians. It's critical the Senate examines how the CSIRO ended up here, who knew about the dire state of the agency & for how long & why senior execs took bonuses while funding cliffs were obviously approaching.

It‘s quite a testimony to the age of regression we live in.

This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

The @albomp.bsky.social Labor Government is no different from the Coalition’s war on science or addressing the climate change consequences. In many ways worse, as they speak with forked tongue, approving mega mines that will increase CO2 emissions, and damage H2O supply. #auspol

Every time Albanese, Marles or Wong offer the tired same platitudes about “shared values” between our country and the USA, the press gallery should respond by asking them about stuff like this.

Anything else is journalistic malpractice.
