So instead of their plan to put down grass sod (why grass and not trees and native plant species I don’t know) they’re now starting to rip out the old pavement. It seems like an odd time to pick this project up again after leaving it that way all year. The other side is also a mess.
The other side is that same trail, except this section of trail is paved, with more invasive plants and a very, very broken wooden guardrail with a bank down to the river behind it. The same dog is photobombing again. He can’t help it.

No they came back in the spring and removed a bunch of invasive multi flora that was getting out of control beside the trail and found an old road or driveway underneath it.
A bunch more tire tracks, a pile of broken up pavement, and behind that a chain link fence and some homes and backyards.

Can we fire our transportation engineers? Asking for a city full of people justifiably concerned about kids’ safety.

This is the problematically narrow, cracked, and debris-filled bike lane in question. Not the one in the article’s photo. I put a bit more explanation in the alt text.
A Google streetview image that shows the bike lane on Bell Road in Halifax, a strip of half pavement/half curb that is barely wider than the handlebars of a typical hybrid, commuter, or mountain bike. There are deciduous trees above the bike lane, they’re all green here, but in autumn they drop all their leaves into this uneven bike lane, they collect along the low points and they hide the line where the pavement and curb are not flush. Because the bike lane is so narrow none of the city’s equipment for clearing leaves or snow is able to fit.

Did they really close the sidewalk on both sides of Barrington Street half a block from the Scotia Square transit terminal this morning with absolutely no attempt at a pedestrian detour?

Finding data about police pursuits in Canada is challenging as each force keeps its own records. A study conducted by the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the RCMP found that 77 people died in police pursuits over a 10-year period ending in 2019. But that study was based on media reports and pursuits that failed to make the news were not included.
