technically speaking, that bug was added after my "i think it's working??" moment, which is typical
but i found the bug i'd missed, which was forgetting to compare the lengths of strings after checking the common prefix and matching the whole of one of the strings

i said in an interview recently "yeah everytime i write x+=1 or similar, i know i'v written a bug somewhere" and honestly people underestimate how many bugs "for x in list" solves without effort

to be clear, i just fixed a bug, the code looks like it is working, the checks are all passing

there is at least "old irn bru" which isnt caffineated and so tastes sweeter than "not as old irn bru" but at least it has sugar
