When I roast a bunch of veggies together I always put the red beets in a little aluminum foil boat I make just for them so they are on the sheet with the rest of the veggies but prevented from bleeding all over the others.

They were not! The competition turned out to be a very non-competitive game of kicking balls around the yard.

“That was the celebration,” said the toddler, picking up their caddy and leaving us in the dark room. “I handed out prizes to the competition.”

They later returned and had us pick out prizes for two more rounds.

We are now sitting in the dark, pleasantly perplexed.

Jay reached his hand into the caddy and pulled out…

The stopper from a breast pump.

I went next, and got a tiny pink plastic chair.

My mother got a book about dogs

My father got a plastic cat.

“Welcome to the celebration,” they said.

“Now you may each pick a prize,” they said.

“You pick a prize first.” They held the caddy out to Jay.

“Can we sit down?” we asked.

The toddler pointed us each to a different seat.

“You can sit here with me,” they said to me and Jay, as they ushered us to the sofa.

When we finished folding the laundry, the toddler said, “it is time for the celebration.”

They led us single file into a dark room lit only by electric candles and their torch, which had now been deposited in a plastic mesh caddy.

We told them we needed to finish folding the laundry.

“Why don’t we have the celebration in here?” we suggest.

“The celebration must be in the dark,” said the toddler.

They waited patiently for us to finish folding the laundry.

The article explains what it means, it’s specifically about the accelerated building of neurological connections that is typically associated with physical adolescence, but which we already knew continued into most people’s late 20s.

I mean, from everything I know, the work/life balance hasn’t been feasible for Walmart workers for DECADES, so I saw that article going around and thought ooh I really hope it’s not feasible for her, specifically, because if anyone doesn’t have the right to a work/life balance it’s a Walmart exec.

Yeah, we made the decision to try to stay if Mamdani won, we’re cautiously optimistic about what’s happening in NYC right now. If we lived in another state— or even another city— we’d be gone.

Oh my gosh amazing!!!

Yeah it’s the same reason driving in NYC is so bad, you have drivers from tons of different places who all learned different local driving habits trying to drive in the same place.
