I have built a guided Stoic practice for midlife men who want to:

✅ Earnestly define their values
✅ Live in alignment with them
✅ Become genuinely good, reliable people
✅ Ground their lives in something deeper than status

Stoicism isn't a dry academic hobby. It is a complete life philosophy.

My work focuses on helping people practice it in a serious, structured way to find a permanent sense of fulfillment.

Hey Scott, great photos. I don’t own a telescope, but I remember the joy of owning one.

I have a son now, nearly 2 years old, and I’m considering getting a telescope again. I’d like something capable of seeing things like this. Do you have any suggestions?

I have a healthy budget.

Ah. I misunderstood the point you were making. I thought you meant that a person could find purpose in their life and also believe in a purpose for existence in general (cosmic vs quotidian purpose) — not that people have a separate idea of purpose than god(s).

To what extent?

Don’t you think that not having an answer to the question in cosmic register leaves the satisfaction of the quotidian answer in want?

Which feels like quitting… and I don’t want to quit. But the truth is I’m physically and mentally exhausted.

I’ve been in this teetering state for the last six months or so.

Half “don’t give up on people” and half “there’s no point in this, they don’t want to listen and the don’t care”

Not great.

It’s one of the reasons I’ve been less active lately — it doesn’t seem to me, recently, that anyone who needs to listen is listening… so I’m only ever “preaching to the choir.”

I don’t have it in me, presently, to take on the challenge of convincing people they’re rotting away in a mind prison.

I’m bothered by it; and the root of that bother is that I don’t know how to help people out of this emotional plane of view they’ve gotten trapped in.

It reminds me of the character Sarah from The Labyrinth when she’s been convinced she’s home but she’s really trapped in a trash heap under a spell.

This is a somewhat new struggle.

I used to be able to patiently wait for these detours, guiding participants back to the mattering parts of a conversation as they again and again prioritised feelings over facts, but these days, it seems like feelings have become the facts… we’re forever detoured.

Some of these fit, obviously, but equally as obvious is those that don’t. The Aeneid? I meant Ancient Literature… mythology even… but ancient history?

You’ve also got my book in the Religion section.

I mean, ffs, Ovid isn’t Ancient History… fuck.
