THIRST by Marina Yuszczuk

A sapphic vampire novel told in dual POVs where past and present converge in Buenos Aires. This is my favorite kind of literary horror, and I love how Yuszczuk uses vampiric thirst to open themes of grief, longing, and belonging. It’s gothic, blasphemous, and gorgeous.

This book made me emotional!! Bazterrica examines the human drive towards violence, exploitation, cruelty, and--ultimately--devastating hope and love. Viscerally moving in its portrayal of sapphic desire and defiance in a desolate world.

Lesbian monster lovers, this novella's for you! Despite the arachnid love interest having devoured her past brides, this was a cozy story about opening oneself to love. Pueyo's vibrant and gothic setting delivers a contained world to sink into.
