Real Madrid's revenue has shot up in the last few years. They are the only football club to have exceeded a billion Euros in revenue to date. Moreover, the club has budgeted a further 5% increase this season to €1,248m.

The latest positive result means that Real Madrid have reported profits every year since 2000. In the last 10 years this added up to almost exactly a quarter of a billion Euros (before tax).

Despite a less successful season, Real Madrid managed to increase their pre-tax profit by €11m (57%) from €20m to €31m. Revenue rose €112m (10%) to a staggering €1,185m, largely offset by higher costs, linked to the stadium becoming fully operational.

To highlight Barcelona's new found frugality, their €490m gross transfer spend in the last five years was less than half of the €1.2 bln in the preceding 5-year period. Indeed, net spend in the last two years was just €3m.

The club's revenue definition of €994m includes €43m gain on player sales and €35m provisions movements.
