The “spurious“ measurement in pseudohyponatremia is actually the direct ISE. Nevertheless, it is most helpful, because it correlates with the plasma sodium activity as we are used to from non-lipemic/non-hyperproteinemic samples.

Yet, the labeling of row 4 is a little unfortunate: By calling it the “reported“ sodium concentration (instead of plasma concentration) they wrongfully imply, that the value is incorrect or “spuriously low“ -as they say in the text …
