Yorkshire Swan & Wildlife Rescue Hospital
@swanrescue.bsky.social
A charity operated by dedicated volunteers and vets, committed to the rescue, treatment and rehabilitation of injured swans and wildlife across Yorkshire.
We suspect the swan may have been deliberately targetted with an air rifle or catapult given her injuries, and is due to undergo an x-ray in the morning once
stabilised. In the meantime, the bird is comfortable in one of our intensive care pens with pain relief cover.

The bird will remain on continued treatment in one of our care pens over the coming days, where we are hopeful for a full recovery.

As illustrated, the swan was in a precarious position but was eventually pursuaded into a location where he could then be safely caught. Upon closer inspection, a deep laceration was found to the bird’s wing, which has now been given the appropriate attention.

Each animal regaining their freedom serves to remind us why our continued work is so worthwhile. Thank you to everyone who supports us, and helps to make this possible.

He’s making a fantastic recovery in our care following surgery, and has since been introduced to one of our pools - as pictured here enjoying the water!

The incident has since been reported to Lincolnshire Police. Wildlife crime remains a serious issue, and we ask everyone to remain vigilant to help protect our wild animals.

The bird had been shot at least 16 times, with pellets found in both legs, both wings, abdomen, neck and head; a miracle the animal had survived such an ordeal. The swan remains on continued treatment here in our care, and is making a steady recovery following surgery.

We are currently receiving several calls of this type each day from all corners of the region. Thankfully, most are uninjured and can be returned to the safety of the nearest flock.
