Beyond the poor road condition and the crumbling pipes underneath, the very design of Summit Ave is dangerous. The poor sightlines make left turns and crosses hazardous and the layout encourages high speeds. This is a problem whether you are a driver, biker, or pedestrian.

There’s more work to be done to both support this study as well as the further expansion of T-Districts beyond just transit corridors, but this is a big step in the right direction. Please stay tuned for more we can do to support these efforts in the future.

"I ask the Council to align MRCCA updates with City staff’s recommendations on Urban Core/UM building heights. The tiered setbacks are complex and burdensome, limiting development. A balanced approach supports downtown density, the tax base, and sustainable growth. Thank you."

A vibrant, dense downtown is essential to Saint Paul’s tax base and long-term sustainability. Sustain Saint Paul supports City staff’s original recommendations, which allow responsible development while meeting DNR standards. The Commission’s proposal adds unnecessary complexity.

"Not only do I support the common-sense amendments to the T Districts recommended by the Planning Department and Planning Commission, I would also like to see the City Council officially direct the Planning Commission to expand T-Districts more broadly throughout the city."

We have been campaigning to expand mixed-use Traditional Neighborhood Districts in our zoning code to make it easier for small local businesses like coffee shops and corner stores to open up in every neighborhood. The city council has an important hearing on this issue TOMORROW.
