Wow - this guy must be really, REALLY bad with money if an extra £208 per month will “ruin” his retirement.

Let’s take a look at his situation based on what he told the @Telegraph

Because this does NOT add up!

No, this is not a “poor pensioner” scrabbling around for pennies…

Feels fairly politically notable that Labour’s had to find the money to fund a £150 cut to energy bills next year and hasn’t really got a single good headline out of it. Maybe it’ll pay off next year, but relies on voters crediting them for the fall in bills?

A small number of Labour MPs appear completely uninterested in governing & the compromises that demands. It is frankly ridiculous to oppose a small sensible compromise that is backed by the TUC to get the historic Employment Rights Bill on the statute book.

There are about 30 million homes in the UK. Considerably fewer than 100,000 of them will be worth £2m+.

Even @channel4news.bsky.social opens its budget coverage by asking "What will this do for Labour's position in the polls?"

Polls are not even a good predictor of future elections. They're certainly not a test by which budgets should be measured.

We have to break their cold, dead grip on politics.

On Sky Politics Hub, the whole budget was framed as if somehow the most consequential thing was the OBR accidentally publishing figures an hour early. There are 50 things in there more salient to viewers. I see no way to justify it editorially, other than to construct a hostile narrative. Poor.

You may have seen some headlines about welfare spending going up to £406.2bn by 2030/31.
That is correct, it is the OBR figure.

Here is what you may not have seen.
Of the £406.2bn
A) £195.4bn goes to pensioners
B) £13.9bn goes on child benefit.

Facts matter.
