New blog post: Cancelling async #rustlang!

This is a written version of my talk at #RustConf 2025, where I talk about the joys and sorrows of future cancellations in Rust, with lessons from our work at @oxide.computer. Includes a video of the talk as well. Check it out!

Do we know Landon told anyone that he was having this convo with Epstein? We do not! But let’s say an editor knew. Then what? At most, it would be the beginning of an investigation. Would Landon be the reporter to do it? Probably not! You see he’s begging Epstein for specifics & doesn’t get them

It's wild how bad XML CDATA is. Ooh text that doesn't need to be escaped, sounds fantastic! But CDATA can't include the string "]]>" and can't be nested. Hard to design a more useless feature than that

why do so many powerful men sympathize with the Republican Party on "cultural" issues, even when they are otherwise well-established & loyal Democrats? Simple, they just hate women

Just released quick-junit 0.5.2, containing (from what I can tell) the first industrial-strength (i.e. with fuzzing and roundtrip property-based testing) JUnit XML parser for Rust!

quick-junit's serializer is used by cargo-nextest.

I am JUST old enough to have caught a taste of the Before Times as a young adult, and yeah, I have pretty much universally found that under-30 LGBTs *literally do not believe you* when you tell them how significant the turnaround has been, and HOLY HELL does it leave me frustrated at times.

Surround yourself with good thoughts and ideas, and you will become better. Bad thoughts and ideas, you'll become worse! Trying to pretend otherwise is simply detached from reality

The psychic wage of hierarchy is, imo, the #1 obstacle to democracy worldwide
"the revolt of the bosses" is a good way of framing the elite reaction to woke 1. what's particularly interesting is that this isn't a reaction to an attack on profits--it's a reaction to changes in workplace culture--

which is to say, the psychic wage of hierarchy
I suspect that the revolt of the bosses element of all this really is explained by: a bunch of upper echelon Americans really didn't like the cultural and workplace changes induced by Woke era, some portion of them were pushed into internet insanity, but most just wanted a shift slightly right....
