The spectators should learn to mind their manners. There were jeers and catcalls. The spectators should respect the sumo world's combination of furious fights and moments of silence. However, the chairman noted that "each venue has its own culture and atmosphere".

Dame-oshi:

Some council members criticised Hoshoryu's conduct - both the dame oshi and the dangerous way he grabbed at Aonishiki at the end of their match. But the chairman says it was just a general "Hinkaku is important, let's all work on that".

Aonishiki:

Great work, especially considering the state of his home land. "Endeavouring and standing fast - that was splendid. Great hidden fighting spirit. We have great hopes for him"

The Yokozuna:

They were involved in the yusho arasoi to the last day. The YDC wishes Onosato to completely heal, and Hoshoryu to work hard.

I don't think that's the story. I think it's just their fan base in Fukuoka.

Yeah, the guy is going to be wearing a black ceremonial haori-hakama and bowing to the messengers on Wednesday.

The position before the basho was clear - he would only be considered for Ozeki in January.

There is no point comparing records and precedents. This works by the shimpan department's judgement of candidate's performance and stability, not by numbers.

Makushita: 7-0 Kazuma - yusho

Sandanme: 7-0 Kaki - yusho

Jonidan: 7-0 Kakueizan, Ryuho - playoff day 15 (both from Otowayama beya!)

Jonokuchi: 7-0 Goseiryu - yusho

It should have been a monoii, though, IMO, just to make extra sure, given the importance of the match and that it was, indeed, close.

The "dead body" rule has some rules of thumb. Basically, if you fall forward, you are almost never considered "dead". If you fall backwards, as soon as your feet are both off the ground, you're dead (there are qualifications for both statements but they hold for this match).
