I actually really like Mints desktop layer! It's mostly just that the package manager it uses seems to be a bit... selective? Just annoying following guides for something which say 'Just install it via the package manager!' and the Mint one doesn't know whatever it is I wanna install.

Yeah, I'm in that uncomfortable stage where I don't know if I've made the right decision or not (Because there are SO many options) but definitely a lot of people backing up my decision to go with Mint!

I have not! Any guides you'd recommend to switching desktop? Because oh man am I not a fan of the default Ubuntu one.

And I also know that linux-based desktops are made to be fiddled with, but I wanna ease myself into it and I don't wanna spend forever getting the desktop not feeling completely alien, because once I start fussing I'll never stop.

I swear if any of y'all motherfuckers say "Why are you using the desktop the terminal is the only thing that matters" I'm deleting this post and you

I tried Ubuntu very briefly but was intensely put off by the weird default desktop panel layout and the lack of easy customization for it.

Also tried Kubuntu but it also felt weird and offputting.

There are some foods that *need* to be as basic as possible otherwise they're just awful and snooty

I can’t think of a more appropriate pose for a useless centrist, honestly

Every creative challenge you overcome gives you another tool in your toolbelt. Something you can take with you forever. And it can even help you with unrelated tasks!

Overcome challenges, experience life, don't sit at the starting line complaining it's too hard and make a shitty drone run for you.

I think one thing that a lot of people who are new to creating stuff don't understand is that once you get better at something, you *stay* better at that thing. I think they think they'll have to put in the crazy amount of work it takes to improve every single time you do something, and you don't.
November 27, 2025 at 8:30 AM
Like look, if you suck at art, writing, playing an instrument or anything like that, think of all the future joy that you could have from improving at them! You could have a satisfying life!! Just stop clicking the 'make awful shit for me' button!!!!
November 27, 2025 at 8:23 AM
Friction *helps* the creative process. Why do you think artists constantly challenge themselves with trying new mediums and giving themselves restrictions? Same reason people play games on harder difficulties or do speedruns, because overcoming a challenge is REWARDING you motherfuckers
November 27, 2025 at 8:22 AM
Man, we're going to be left with a generation of people who feel like they've experienced the creative process and left with the excuse of 'eh, it wasn't very satisfying', when they never created a single fucking thing, aren't we.
November 27, 2025 at 8:20 AM
Yeah except they very likely won't 'shut steam down', they'll be taken over by new management that will turn Steam into a microtransaction hellscape and 'retire' old games from the server 'because nobody plays them' (Even though you've paid for them).

Anyone that uses AI to make flavor text or silly little fake brands is dead inside.

If you can't bring yourself to take it seriously, then just be a silly little guy. Anything real is better that slop.

Delicious, honestly
