Social media is a bit different. We're the product..

By growing the size of the market as a whole.. in an immature industry like evs which needs increasing amounts of infrastructure from which all participants benefit, more consumers = more infrastructure..

in any way helps Elon Musk) I would have to get a survey/health check done on the battery...

Personally I'm more inclined to hold out for eFuels than buy an EV..

...and yes, you can easily have a petrol car that has been ragged to hell but only done 10k miles of course.. just there's no single component that costs as much to replace as an EV battery.. in the unlikely event I were ever to buy one second hand (I won't, because IMO supporting the EV industry

I don't know with EV batteries as I've never owned one.. but with the leisure batteries in my van, you can't let them discharge to more than 50% or it begins to damage them..

The problem with the EV battery is the sheer cost of replacements.. they'll be more than the value of the car.

Low mileage isn't as good a yardstick with EVs as it is for traditional engines as the most valuable part of the car is the battery and they have a limited lifespan.. the health of the battery will have more to do with the way the battery has been charged/discharged than the mileage the car has done

In Switzerland you have to pay for a vignette that lasts a year, in other countries like Austria, you can buy vignettes for as little as 10 days. It seems crazy to me that we don't already have something like this in place.

I would also like to see a Vignette introduced for motorway charging. UK registered cars should get this as part of paying VED.. but foreign registered cars would need to buy a Vignette - as is very common in Europe - so that they are making a contribution for their use of our roads..

As EV use expands (hopefully not Teslas) this move is inevitable because the exchequer will need to maintain the revenue it gets from fuel duty.. so it may as well start now..
November 27, 2025 at 10:22 AM
OK, it may have been a wee bit churlish - and I don't like anything that makes Mr Musk money!! - but EVs are more expensive up-front purchases than petrol/diesel cars which in turn provide the owner with lower running costs over time because they aren't buying petrol/diesel, which is mostly tax..
November 27, 2025 at 10:22 AM
EVs have become a way for wealthier people to avoid paying fuel duty, making fuel duty a regressive tax. This corrects that. To an extent.

You still use Twitter though.

And honestly I don't give a fuck if it's popular or not. It's going to make a lot of kids' lives better. That's the point of government. Not an opinion poll.

It's embarrassing. Even the fucking PM is pointing and arguing with the opposition front bench while she is speaking.

💯like the BoE MPC.
