larger level of its sci-fi story. I think the game's great on either of these two levels alone, but combined it's really something special. I also feel like it can be endlessly dissected, layer by layer.

Great thread. I’ve been struggling to put some writing together for the same reason - there’s so much to say. I really like that the writing is captivating on the “individual” level, about a person and her family (and the greater relatable experience there) but is also captivating on the grander,

of horror as what someone doesn’t know, would never expect, or the indescribable cosmic being they could not comprehend. The more defined, “familiar” scale of horror puts so much weight behind the words, and I’m eagerly awaiting his upcoming novel.

who enjoyed previous works ‘Mary’ and ‘Nestlings’ would also find elements to enjoy in ‘Rest Stop,’ and that’s definitely true. I like his nuanced lens for his characters, where what someone does know, feel, and what they may even say is in their core is part of the horror - in contrast to the idea

While not required to enjoy the experience, spotting some of the religious imagery and mythology inspirations brings additional symbolism to Lorelei’s plot and atmosphere. There are also strong neorealism film influences throughout.
