The puzzle pack in Art of Fauna features six puzzles, based on drawings made during the Arcturus Expedition 100 years ago. ⛵

Here is a video, where Madeleine Thompson shows off these beautiful drawings. 🧑‍🎨

Drawings of Otherworldly Wildlife: Capturing the History of the Hudson Canyon
“They’re just so struck by the proximity of these mysterious forms to New York City,” says Madeleine Thompson, Executive Director of the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Library and Archives. 100 years ago, the Arcturus Expedition set sail from New York City. Led by the then-New York Zoological Society—now WCS—the six-month expedition sailed through the Sargasso Sea, around the Galápagos Islands, and then back through the Hudson Canyon just off the New York/New Jersey coast. Thompson shares some of the timeless beauty they found and captured in intricate drawings. This story is a part of WCS’s effort to designate the Hudson Canyon as a National Marine Sanctuary. Clicking on it reveals that it's available in high resolution and under public domain. ♥️

And so I have my image without paying a dime to a stock image side, and instead, can use the money to donate to the Biodiversity Heritage Library!

With the name of the book on hand, I could go back to my datasource (Flickr and WikiCommons offers an easy way to search for it).

And Voilà - I immediately find the book! 📚

Side-note:

Sometimes I can go directly to the stock image side, but in this case it wouldn't have revealed the image that I was looking for! 🔍

Going to the stock image side does reveal a price for the license of 22€ 👀

But also the name of the artist, the book and the date, making it clear that this image is actually public domain!

Fortunately, I can make a screenshot and use Google Image search, revealing the drawing on a stock image side! 📸

Going to the website reveals that I could buy the print of this image for 119.90€ 💶

Unfortunately, it doesn't list the artist nor the book where this picture is from...

I wanted to make a puzzle for the terebinth, but my dataset didn't have anything labeled for that plant.

But turning to google, I found this image which I quite liked. 👀
