This is from 2022 Munich Security Conference. Just days before Putin launched his brutal invasion into Ukraine.

There is nothing reasonable or reasonable look in this mockery of a proposal. It looks like an internet troll, a bad joke. Nobody in their right mind should not entertain this even for a second. It would just be agreeing for the next, even more bloodier war.

Trump now stands as one of the final nails in the coffin.
He is not the fire — only the smoke.
The real fire lies in the deep crisis of democracy — not just in the United States, but across many so-called Western nations.

We are entering an age of cult-like movements built around individual figures and seductive, simplified visions of the world.
A longing for a golden age that never was.
Simple answers to complex problems, fueling a self-reinforcing cycle of collapse.

— especially Biden’s “escalation management” and Germany’s prolonged hesitation.

The real fire lies in the deep crisis of democracy — not just in the United States, but across many so-called Western nations.

The COVID pandemic was a catalyst, revealing the hidden fragility of global systems.

The world order established after World War II was finally broken when the response to Russia’s escalation into full-scale war came fragmented and weak

Our own integrity is crucial. Russia doesn't only lie but wants us to lose grasp on reality itself: pollute information so that nobody knows what is true anymore.

To fight this, we must be willing to acknowledge even the painful, unpleasant things as well. To be comfortable in not knowing.

We next to Russia should do everything in our power to fight Russia now. Give whatever support we can to help Ukraine win. As a Fin, I find it naive to trust national security to US or even France, UK or Germany. Only us who have been constantly invaded by Russians truly know what is at stake here.

The talks about trade opportunities and even ice hockey were quite revealing: Trump lives in his own imaginary reality and Putin knows how to feeds his delusions. The question now is how long do we want to liven in our delusion that US will eventually save us?

Hovi onkin tässä avainsana: olemme palanneet 1700-luvulle. Kuninkaat ja tsaarit kahmivat siirtomaita, tekevät etupiirijakoja ja hoveissa pitää käydä polvistumassa alamaisuutta osoittaen.

I live next to Russia, have been in Soviet Union, seen Russia after Soviet collapse, I don't see that much has changed. Russia has never been trustworthy neighbour. There is always a "czar", just the title varies. There are no security guarantees other than military power and the will to use it.
