It’s actually been a phenomenon in green movements worldwide where crypto fascists try and hijack the movement to push racist immigration policies under the guise of sustainability, I doubt that’s still the case here, but you have to be ever vigilant.

It might surprise the younger viewers, but it was the greens that emerged as the anti immigration party, it was the emergence of one nation that forced a rethink as their policies placed them uncomfortably close to Pauline, it then evolved from there with Tampa.

Yep, politicians are hesitant to get out too far ahead on an issue, it’s a fine line between leading and being viewed as out of touch with the electorate, it’s grassroots action that creates the space for them to act on an issue

It’s no coincidence that the decline of the union movement has robbed activism of its effectiveness, it’s the fault of the left that they allowed themselves to be wedged and didn’t fight for their unions that was a vehicle for participation in democracy and advancement of working people 3/

Our first environmental and heritage laws didn’t come about because of a brave politician, it was the BLF placing green bans, and the public supporting them that forced the issue. The union movement supported many other issues bringing real power to activism. 2/

I’d argue that politicians don’t manage problems but manage the expectations of the electorate. Id also argue that this has always been the case. A complacency has crept in where people are looking for a messiah to save them rather than do the heavy lifting themselves. 1/

People that are politically disengaged don’t tend to pay attention to any lobbying efforts, they’re more likely to get their disinformation from the usual sources ie Murdoch

I’m not sure of their effectiveness, they take more credit than they deserve and some are looking for a boogeyman. Astroturfing campaigns are usually a sign of weakness, it points to the oligarchs usual mode of manipulation not working anymore.
