The crisis isn’t refugees. It’s not that one person committed one tragic crime and killed one other person. The crisis isn’t that America’s 250-year old history of hosting immigrants turned out to be a mistake.

The crisis is that STEPHEN MILLER, a hateful little maggot, controls the government.

Nuzzi is like Trump in this sense: the worst thing about America is not that someone that awful exists, the worst thing is that much of the press promotes and normalizes it for clicks.

I’ve always been grumpy in the morning. Now I mostly cannot sleep in past like 6:30 anymore, but sometimes, even if I could have gone back to sleep, I just get up anyway. I get so much shit done and nobody around to actually trigger my grumpiness.
finding that I am not exactly a morning person, which is a shame since waking up first has so far shown itself to be the ultimate dad hack

National parks have SO MANY people from other countries (since they get real vacations!)

And they spend a lot of money on hotels, food, souvenirs, etc.

This is unbelievably dumb, it will destroy entire tourist towns

this is obviously intended to chill dissent but i think it's going to backfire on them. what the lawmakers said was just directly true. and trying to get them for it is just going to raise their profile and the salience of what they said!
MS NOW confirms: The FBI is working with Capitol Police to schedule interviews with the six Democratic lawmakers who urged service members to refuse to comply with illegal orders.

First time I went to wife’s family for holidays. They buy like $400 worth of beef tenderloin every year. I get to the table and it’s beyond well done. Totally dumbfounded. Struck a deal with them, I will cook all of it for dinner, but get to cook a portion of it to medium rare.
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore

I feel like we need this

the economic success of the U.S. is significantly built on the land grant universities and in particular their excellent agricultural science tradition.
Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

And Bluesky has exceeded them this evening with the jokes. Every once in a while, I think maybe this place can actually have the juice….then I read beyond the first three replies…alas…but well done tonight, folks.
Yeah, I’m kinda looking forward to seeing this.
