She/her. Part time classicist. I spend a lot of time thinking about ancient Rome but not the way you think.
But this email went out to millions of parents who are not hip to that, and a similar number of former scouts I assume, all of whom are aware of what it takes to earn a badge

They are proposing cutting support for Scouting troops on military bases which will probably anger a lot of serving military who were scouts themselves and want their kids to be too. I feel like this is poking something with a stick that should not be poked.

I assume so too but they apparently said that the scouts were insufficiently meritocratic now. Which was probably not the right language to use if you didn’t want to piss off every kid who ever got a badge for anything

Yeah, my son was in Scouting in the US for only one year and I received their response email, and I know exactly how mad all the committed Scouts & parents will be about this. Crazy!

I love it when the Guardian sends a journalist to talk to five Methodists in Indiana and then come up with drivel like this.

You spend all this time, reading Clausewitz and Mahan and Thucydides, studying campaigns and thinking hard about the roots of victory and defeat, the experience of war and what that means for policy and then you look over and the policy movers are strategy cheese and infantrydork.

Portland is a peaceful, vibrant city with no need for federal agents on our streets. I urge Oregonians not to fall into Trump’s attempt to incite violence. Just as I did in 2020, I will lead our delegation and state officials to oppose any unjustified increase in federal forces.
