Even relatively minor wars are uncommon - the United States homeland hasn't been meaningfully invaded by a foreign enemy since *1814*

Obviously *bad* things have happened in American history - almost all done to Americans by other Americans - but nothing like "10% of the population is killed in the span of half a decade"

There are a lot of countries that have lost 10% or more of their entire population in a single war or genocide. Nothing that's ever happened to the US comes anywhere close to that.

I've heard a lot of shock about how they've never encountered students this intellectually dishonest, incurious, etc, but these students are by far the majority among evangelical Christians in "flyover" country where it is a norm for Christians to, literally, protect their soul from their intellect
