Good evening. My ornamental cabbage is not doing very well. Colorful but also sickly. May have been the big piles of wild rabbit poop that I cleaned out when we got back from Minnesota. Rabbit poop doesn't need curing but there was a lot in this bed, maybe too much manure goodness.

Good afternoon. Our Shining Blue Star mdc.mo.gov/discover-nat... has pretty flowers in Spring and great Fall color leaves. We got a division from a neighbor's mother plant that has taken over a ditch and looks glorious.

Weekly paper of record in Hickory County Mo has no reporters, not just no local govt reporter. Editor gripes in that he can't "report" on govt if entities don't email him their meeting Minutes (for him to regurgitate into stories). County Commission Minutes are posted online in monthly batches.

More Bluesky censorship. @moderation.bsky.app really hates art or they're using AI to police.

I'm not sure if you're allowed to use the word "hate" w/o getting censored btw. The rules are either not straightforward or designed to make this a place for kitty and puppy photos and that's it.

Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday shopping isn't part of my culture. My first real experience was the Thanksgiving at MIL's lake house after she'd remarried. The adult stepdaughters "had" to woof down turkey then drive to Branson to get in line at outlet mall, Walmart. It was rude, ruined MIL's day.

Good morning. We were delighted to find a 🌳 tree with great Fall color 🍂 on yesterday's group walk to lake park after pie and turkey. We've begun a stretch of many days with rain and freezing temperatures, so that color won't last. Timing is everything.

Good evening. Happy Mr. Gobbles Leftovers, everyone!

We are out of mashed potatoes, rolls, and pie but there's still all sorts of food for second Thanksgiving dinner.

Remembering the Great Twitter Food and Garden "Sensitive Content" label wars of 2022. Some of us had hundreds of posts automatically, stupidly labeled. Each one required separate appeal, which I gave up on. You'd get one label removed then five new ones would pop up. Bluesky is becoming like that.

Good afternoon. Behold the majesty of Mr. Gobbles, a 20 lb free range bird from an Amish farm in Laclede County Mo.

Wanted to be on an island this holiday, but that didn't work out. Then we tried to score a wild turkey. No luck on that. Thankful for this ethically raised small farm turkey.

Pie before turkey? In this house, yes!!!

Deviated from recipe btw by using half cooked down fresh cranberries and half dried cranberries plumped in bourbon to make sure cranberry flavor stood out a much as bourbon & pecans. Mission accomplished. 😋

CSA goodness salad: done. The tomatoes are separate because The Mr. and a guest do not eat raw tomatoes.

Last night was our fourth hard freeze in Zone 6b but our Aromatic Asters mdc.mo.gov/discover-nat... are still putting on a show.

Good morning and Happy #SecularPieThursday to @duchessgoldblatt.bsky.social and all who celebrate.

This year I tried my version of an Epicurious recipe that I have renamed Bourbon Pecan Cranberry Galette. Made with locally grown pecans.

Getting an early start by sharing this garden goodness quiche, which I hope pleases Her Grace.

Good afternoon. Last of the persimmons at lake park. The deer ate the rest of them across the street while we were funeralizing. But I did get six quarts of persimmon puree for winter breadmaking in the freezer a couple weeks ago.

Iowa City Made Its Buses Free. Traffic Cleared, and So Did the Air. Ridership jumped, people cut back on driving and, over the summer, the city extended the program another year.
