and yes, it’s enough to be taxed on a large excess that you will genuinely never need in your lifetime. prizes being taxed unequally to business just means we conduct our national business tax code poorly. prize taxes are surprisingly ethical

600k isn’t just enough to pay your own debts, its enough to assist your whole family. It’s enough to get your parent’s house payed off. It’s enough to finish school and still have money leftover for saving and investing. Its enough for life saving medical procedures.

the truth is before gAI we've been using AI scripts to automate repetitive or inefficient tasks just fine for decades, gAI makes those same tasks absolutely impossible or dangerous to do. it basically rendered decades of technology unusable. and it kills the planet and ruins economies as it does it.

and frankly? my society deserves it. i reap the benefits of the infrastructure that comes from living amongst other humans every day. if you believe in transactional value, and of equal pay for equal service, society absolutely is entitled to a share of what i extract from it.

that's money i'm contributing to my society. taxes are not some inherent evil. taxes can do great good. taxes maintain our roads. taxes keep people fed. taxes grant (even if not enough in my opinion) our vulnerable access to health care. i'm not making my society better by hoarding.

For sure. I think it was a deliberate showcase to highlight how evil can absolutely come from gentle mannered people, and vice versa. Garak was under no illusions he was a good person but sided with justice consistently. Dukat saw himself as benevolent while enslaving others.
