Palestinian-American. Cat person. Mathematics professor. Leftist. Autistic but often told it’s not obvious. Nerd but not the consumerist kind. Arrogant but can back it up.

Mathematic for the people.

I just got a lot of new mathematician followers, so in my attempt to pander, here’s my area of interest. For the past year, I’ve been translating, solving, and writing detailed solutions for Japanese college entrance exam problems. I even code randomly-generating variants for student practice.
Jeffrey Epstein’s e-mail address was [email protected]. Right now, an AI is training itself on his e-mails.

Marty McFly gets super defensive if you call him a motherfucker. “You don’t understand! You weren’t there! IT WAS ONLY ONE TIME.”

One thing I really don’t like about the Internet: the worst people in the world have the most power—not just the obvious kind but socially. If a Nazi likes, say, shrimp, then centrists will share that all like, “LOOK AT THE COMPANY THAT SHRIMP LIKERS KEEP.”

Used this way, AI is pure propaganda, it's made to stoke fears in immigrants and tourists while normalizing this behaviour further for the eyes who aren't.

We sometimes talk about "what the average German knew" about the camps, this is designed to taint what we know about US camps.
the decision to really just abandon moderation and let it rip suggests that this is what meta wants for its platform. this is the final, idealized form of the product
The most horrifying AI slop of ICE raids you can possibly imagine is wildly viral on Facebook, collectively totaling tens of millions of views from a single account. First spotted by @chadloder.bsky.social

My students all had their phones out pointed at me. I thought they wanted a picture. They were trying to put me in Silent Mode.

One of satire’s thousand deaths occurred when conservatives said with a straight face that a white South African is “self-made.”

Every Veterans and Memorial Day, I think about my great-grandfather who fought in World War I. My mother used to guilt me by asking, “If he was in Heaven, and he was looking down, what would he say?” I think he’d say, ”I TOLD YOU IT WAS APPENDICITIS.”

Happy to find out Estelle Parsons is still alive. Less so to learn that she’s a member of one of those groups that uses “for Peace” as a euphemism in place of “for colonization.”

Shelley Winters only did two episodes of Batman, possibly because she was notoriously unpleasant behind the scenes. She showed up late, held up filming, and stuck the producers with a bill for her food. Tisha Sterling, who plays Legs here, said she “was a bitch and was a holy terror to me.”

Well, this is freaky: I coincidentally looked an actress up on the day she died.

Nobody has more contempt for tacky-ass Funko Pops than I, but I have to say, Funko’s customer service was extremely professional and nice to me. I asked for one replacement part for a Robby the Robot bobblehead. They mailed me a whole new bobblehead without me asking. Seriously pleasant experience.

Not trying to say, “I told you so,” or give into vindictiveness, but I feel like the least surprised person that Richard Dawkins hung with Epstein and hates trans people after years of liberal adoration when he “just” hated Muslims.

Watching the worst people in the world all live in one country and destroy one Chesterton’s fence after another has been… a lot.
“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.

Because corporate news exists to push a right wing message and agenda. Now the right wing elites are not satisfied with allowing some semblance of propriety and want to burn down those small guardrails

It’s weird how sometimes you can’t control how you react. Thinking about how I found out years later that a ex-classmate called me a bastard behind my back and my first thought was, “Huh. Yeah, I kinda am.”

I get some of my best ideas from mondegreens. I misheard “Hitchin’ a Ride” by Green Day and I love the idea that, “There’s a trout at the fountain of youth.”

It sucks but this was always how it was going to end. The G.O.P. have taught their voter base that incompetence is integrity, so a shutdown is ridiculously favorable to them. The Democratic establishment is trying hard not to drift leftward and risk winning elections and representing Americans.

On Monday mornings, I used to be able to snort the 8-ball of enthusiasm through the $100 bill of preparedness off the hooker’s ass of job satisfaction. But nowadays it’s increasingly cut with the baking soda of insomnia on the mirror of needing the money.
