Pedestrian birder in Chicago. Click on #birds tag to see just my bird photos without the whinging. I'm also sharing bird links using the #BirdLinks tag. I'm embarrassed by my typos but usually not enough to delete them. Gear: OM1 & OM 150-400 & 100-400
For context this is what the sidewalk in front of the typical apartment building with studios and 1 bedrooms on the same two blocks looks like. The poorest people in area subsidized much better public right of way clearance that the extremely rich.

For the "Rich People Are Socially Irresponsible" file. Uncleared or only partially cleared sidewalks in front of multi-million single family homes in just two blocks on the south side of Barry Ave.

Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary, Chicago. A bit too far for me to walk in today's conditions (weather and mine). Missed out on a big flock of a couple hundred Lapland Longspurs and a Great Horned Owl. 11/30/2025.

I'm deeply amused that Chicago weather mensch, Tom Skilling, can't stop Chicago weather mensching on Facebook even after retiring to Hawaii. Can't stop. Won't stop.

Chicago children betrayed by a snow day falling on a holiday weekend.

While I am snowed in today (not really - I'll be going for a walk soon in order to renew my Canadian expat credentials) I am going to focus on actually learning how to fully use my OM-1. Two years after buying it. Fooled around with Live Composite last night without really knowing how to use it.

Was on my way up to Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary to see the Snowy Owl and then surprise! There was one on my street!

Barry Lakefront Trail underpass mural had some damage yesterday. I collected the tile. Who do you think would do the repair. Where should I take it?

The President who himself has had multiple foreign spouses, including the current first lady with a probable visa violation, has a policy denying/discouraging other ordinary Americans from having a similar opportunity.

This perfectly timed statement by the announcer made me LOL.
"HE IS THE NEXT BIG THING!" as his teammates, who all tower over him, pat little Leo on the head.

The four I saw from my apartment window fighting and failing to go West and get off the lakefront. In the end they just gave up and flew south.

Today's regularly scheduled 10am Peregrine attack on the Montrose Snowy Owls. Third day in a row they've done this dance. 11/23/2025

Three days in a row the Peregrines have arrived to harass the Snowies just after 10am. I'm too tired to edit the photos from today before a nap but here's a RAW look.

We have a pair here in Chicago sitting on Montrose pier this week. The last two days they've had a pair of Peregrines fly in to dispute territory with them at 10am.

Not a great photo but an interesting sight. This was the first really large flock of Red-breasted Mergansers on the lakefront that I have seen this fall. Several hundred in a stretched out flock about half a mile out into the lake being harassed by thieving gulls.
