They already have a face scanner app that purports to ID immigrants. Who's to say they can't extend it a little to include more classes of undesirables?

They already have checkpoints on highways approaching border crossings, mostly for harassing foreigners.

Do they find your "invalid" passport? They'll seize and destroy it, and then detain you for as long as they feel like. You can't prove your citizenship anymore, after all.

The bigger issue is getting on the plane in the first place, you'll need an ID that's considered valid in order to get through airport security...

No. We don't need a federal police force specifically targeting immigration offenses. Having one attracts employees with really toxic ideologies around human rights and gives them way too much power.
