I gotta remember to be more active over here. Anywho, last weekend I spent a day recording a band in their space so they could get a decent demo going. We did three songs, no click, no overdubs, and all live together. It was fuckin fun. Here’s some pics!

Currently mixing a live alt- jazz performance. Not many tracks, but it’s over an hour long for just the set shown and that’s the challenge. The band is excellent at balancing themselves, but you gotta automate to help highlight the soloist.

My big rack of gear was too bulky to be a good mobile rig, so I broke it apart. Top rack is my overdub rig: motu M4 with a slightly modded Presonus Eueka and a Rane Headphone amp. Bottom is a full band recording rig: Steinberg ur824, Focusrite Octopre platinum, and behringer ada8200 for 24 ins.

Reamped some rhythm guitar tracks. Left mic is on a greenback style speaker in the middle of the cone for a dark and thick tone, right is on the cap of a v30 for brightness. Both a fingers width off the grill, blend to taste.

Been a while since I was involved in more than just mixing a song, but I actually got to engineer and produce this one. Recorded a pop punk tune in the bands rehearsal space in about 6 hours. Fairly simple session, all things considered, but I’m really proud of how it’s coming along
