... not making any allusions or implications of the racism of the time lifted away and I'm sure there are other portions of the film I might have missed as well.

But that's why we can't be subtle with our messaging and themes because people will dance right over that and claim they never existed.

That's because banks back then (and today) did Black folks dirty. Having the money wouldn't be enough; she'd need to have that protected status to avoid any chicanery from the bank.

In lieu of that, Tiana has Louis.

When I saw that scene for the first time, whatever misgivings I had for Disney

Throughout the movie, the bankers haven't been portrayed in any underhanded way. Heck, they seem willing to help Tiana and keep it above board.

This is just a business transaction. Money is changing hands for services to be rendered. Why the need to intimidate?

When she's paying the bankers her hard earned cash, Louis intimidates them. Why?

"Well he's just out here providing support for a friend the only way he knows how?" Louis up to this point has been mild mannered and congenial, actively pushing back against the stereotype of being a vicious gator.

Sure New Orleans during that time may have existed in a pocket dimension where some affluent Black people could have carved out a life for themselves but the thing about racism is this: it permeates & infects everything.

And the big Exhibit A of the implication of racism is at the end of the movie.

Now, the quick and dirty answer to his question is, ready for it? 🌈R A C I S M🌈

It's an easy answer but it IS the answer.

We have a young, Black woman living in Jim Crow era Louisiana trying to start her business through hard work and determination.

Did you really read this whole long thread? Wow! Go spread the word: DOGE isn't actually over.
The "DOGE is gone" articles are clickbait but this one gets it closer to the truth: DOGE is not gone, it just claims to have "no centralized leadership" anymore -- in other words, its leadership is hiding in an attempt to avoid blame.
DOGE no longer has ‘centralized leadership’ under White House tech team, personnel head says
The team that was altered to house DOGE — formerly the U.S. Digital Service — is also still doing its own technology work across agencies.
